The best wedding moments can’t be posed

Why I Adore Non-Staged Weddings

This week I chatted with three different brides, and every single one of them said exactly the same thing:

“I don’t want anything posed or staged.”

Honestly? I hear this all the time, and I absolutely get it.

When couples say this, they don’t usually mean they never want to look at the camera. They mean they don’t want to spend their wedding day feeling like they’re on a never-ending photoshoot.

They want to laugh until their cheeks hurt, cry during the speeches, steal little glances at each other, throw questionable dance moves after a few drinks, and actually enjoy their day.

And that’s my favourite way to photograph a wedding.

The magic is in the moments you can’t plan—the flower girl making a break for it, your nan wiping away a tear, your mates roaring with laughter, or that little squeeze of the hand when it all finally sinks in.

I’ll absolutely give you a little guidance when you need it (because no one wants to spend 20 minutes wondering what to do with their hands!), but my job is never to manufacture moments. It’s to notice them.

Because years from now, I don’t just want you to remember what your wedding looked like. I want you to remember exactly how it felt.
