Braving the Cold: A Boudoir Model Call at Calton Hill
When I first put out a model call for Robyn Allan Photography, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. Would anyone be up for it? Would they feel comfortable stepping in front of the camera in such a vulnerable, empowering way?
What happened next completely blew me away.
A handful of incredible women answered the call, each bringing their own energy, confidence, and curiosity to the experience. We agreed to meet at Calton Hill—one of the most iconic spots in Scotland. It’s known for its breathtaking views over Edinburgh… and, as it turns out, for being absolutely packed with tourists.
Oh—and did I mention the weather?
It was cold. Really cold. The kind of damp Scottish chill that seeps into your bones. The ground was wet, the wind was biting, and conditions were far from what you’d call “ideal” for a boudoir shoot.
But these women? They showed up anyway.
Not only did they show up—they absolutely smashed it.
Standing on a hill full of onlookers, wrapped in nothing but their confidence (and a few beautiful pieces of lingerie), they embraced the moment completely. There was laughter between shots, quick dashes to warm up, and a shared sense of “we’re really doing this” that made the whole experience electric.
What could have been intimidating turned into something incredibly powerful.
Boudoir photography is often associated with intimate, private studio settings—but this shoot was a reminder that confidence doesn’t rely on perfect conditions. It’s about owning your space, wherever you are. These women proved that strength and vulnerability can exist side by side, even in the most unexpected environments.
As a photographer, moments like this are why I do what I do.
It’s not just about the images (though they were stunning). It’s about the experience—the courage it takes to step outside your comfort zone, the connection built in shared vulnerability, and the transformation that happens when someone truly sees themselves in a new light.
To the women who came out that day: thank you. You were bold, fearless, and completely inspiring.
And to anyone thinking about booking a boudoir session—this is your sign. You don’t need perfect weather, a perfect body, or perfect confidence to start. You just need to show up.
