Finding Confidence
Turning 43, Finding Confidence: A Boudoir Experience in Perth, Scotland
There’s something powerful about choosing now.
Recently, I had the privilege of photographing a woman here in Perth, Scotland, who decided to book her boudoir shoot at 43. She told me, “I wanted to do it before I’m 44 — I don’t know why, maybe it’s the double digits.” And honestly? That reason is just as valid as any other.
Because boudoir photography isn’t really about the number.
It’s about the story behind it.
Reclaiming Confidence After 40
Turning 40 can feel like a milestone — sometimes empowering, sometimes overwhelming. For many women, it’s a time of reflection. For my client, it marked a period in her life where she was in a difficult relationship, and her self-esteem and confidence were at an all-time low.
She shared that it has taken years to rebuild that confidence. Years of growth, healing, and rediscovering who she is.
And that’s exactly why she chose to do a boudoir shoot.
Not for anyone else. Not for validation.
But as a reminder.
A reminder that she is no longer the person she once was.
More Than Just Photos
Boudoir photography is often misunderstood. People think it’s just about looking sexy or wearing lingerie — but it’s so much deeper than that.
It’s about:
• Seeing yourself in a new light
• Letting go of past versions of yourself
• Celebrating strength, resilience, and growth
For this incredible woman, the shoot symbolised everything she has overcome. It was a way of saying, “I made it through, and I’m proud of who I’ve become.”
Life, Motherhood, and Identity
She’s also a mum to two children — a 16-year-old son and an 8-year-old daughter — and works in insurance. Like so many women, her life is full. Busy. Focused on everyone else.
And somewhere along the way, it’s easy to lose sight of yourself.
That’s why taking time to step in front of the camera can be so transformative. It’s one of the rare moments where everything is just about you.
No roles. No expectations.
Just you, as you are today.
Why “Now” Matters
There’s always a reason to wait.
“I’ll do it when I lose weight.”
“When life is less busy.”
“When I feel more confident.”
But the truth is — confidence doesn’t magically arrive first.
Sometimes, you create it by doing the thing you’re scared of.
At 43, this session wasn’t about chasing perfection. It was about embracing the present moment and honouring how far she’s come.
Your Story Deserves to Be Seen
Every woman who walks into my studio brings her own story — and every story matters.
Whether you’re celebrating a milestone, healing from the past, or simply wanting to reconnect with yourself, boudoir photography can be an incredibly powerful experience.
You don’t need a special reason.
You are the reason.
If you’ve been thinking about booking a boudoir shoot in Perth, Scotland, take this as your sign. Not when everything feels perfect — but now, exactly as you are.
Because one day, you’ll look back and realise this version of you was worth celebrating all along.
