A Greenhouse Photoshoot, 60kg Down & Learning to Love Her New Body
Some photoshoots are about the photographs. Others become about so much more. ❤️
This gorgeous woman came to me for a mini session in the greenhouse, and what was supposed to be a relaxed 40-minute photoshoot turned into an hour and a half of chatting, laughing, sharing stories and, occasionally, remembering that we were actually supposed to be taking photographs.
Whoops! 😂
But honestly? I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
Because behind this beautiful greenhouse photoshoot was a woman who has been on an incredible journey over the last year and a bit. She’s lost an amazing 60kg, she’s feeling fantastic, and she’s entering a new chapter of her life.
And yet, like so many women who experience a significant physical transformation, there’s another part of the journey that doesn’t always get talked about.
Learning to recognise yourself again.
Losing 60kg and getting to know a new version of yourself
Losing 60kg is a huge change, and it’s incredible that she’s feeling so good within herself. But even when a transformation brings positive changes, it doesn’t necessarily mean that your mind catches up with your body overnight.
You can feel healthier, happier and more confident in so many ways, while still having moments when your reflection feels unfamiliar.
The body you’ve lived in for years might look different. Clothes fit differently. Your shape changes. Photographs can show you something that your brain hasn’t quite caught up with yet.
And sometimes, you can look in the mirror and know you’ve made incredible progress, but still need a little time to feel completely at home in your own skin.
That’s something I think so many women can relate to, whether they’ve experienced significant weight loss, had children, gone through menopause, recovered from illness or simply lived through the many changes that life brings.
Body confidence isn’t always about loving every inch
There’s a lot of pressure on women to love their bodies.
And while I absolutely believe in celebrating ourselves, I also think it’s important to make space for the women who aren’t quite there yet.
Sometimes body confidence isn’t looking in the mirror and loving every single thing you see.
Sometimes it’s choosing to be photographed when you would usually hide behind the camera.
It’s wearing something that makes you feel beautiful.
It’s allowing yourself to take up space in a photograph without immediately looking for the things you want to change.
It’s looking at an image of yourself and thinking, Oh, that’s actually me.
And sometimes it’s simply giving yourself permission to be seen.
For this lovely client, her photoshoot was a chance to celebrate how far she’d come while continuing to find her feet in a body that has changed so much.
She doesn’t need to have every feeling figured out. She doesn’t need to be at the end of her confidence journey.
She gets to celebrate this chapter, too.
And that is something worth remembering.
Thinking about booking your own photoshoot?
If you’ve been considering a confidence or boudoir photoshoot but keep finding reasons to put it off, perhaps this is your little reminder that you don’t need to wait until you feel ready.
You don’t need to know how to pose. You don’t need to be a particular size. And you certainly don’t need to arrive feeling like the most confident woman in the world.
That’s what I’m here for.
Whether you’re celebrating weight loss, entering a new chapter, rebuilding your confidence or simply wanting photographs that remind you how beautiful you are, your story deserves to be celebrated.
If you’re looking for a photographer in Scotland who understands that a photoshoot can be about so much more than how you look, I’d love to hear from you.
Let’s create something beautiful together. ❤️
