Newborn Family Photography in Lanarkshire | Scottish Family Photographer

Recently, I travelled for around an hour from Perthshire to Lanarkshire for a very special newborn family photoshoot at a client’s home.

I absolutely love travelling for photography sessions, particularly when it means capturing such an important chapter in a family’s life. There is something incredibly special about photographing a newborn in their own home, where everyone can feel relaxed, comfortable and completely themselves.

The focus of this session was on capturing the genuine connection between this family and their new arrival — the cuddles, tiny details, little moments and all the love that comes with bringing a new baby home. There were also 3 dogs, which made the session even more lively, fun and full of personality.

Newborn photography at home in Lanarkshire

For many new parents, having a photographer come to their home can be much easier than packing up a newborn and travelling somewhere unfamiliar.

A newborn photoshoot at home can be relaxed, personal and completely centred around your family.

As a Scottish newborn and family photographer, I’m happy to travel for sessions throughout Scotland. Whether you’re in Perthshire, Lanarkshire or further afield, I love creating natural family photographs that feel personal and authentic.

Why I won’t be sharing this family’s photographs online

Although I would normally love to showcase beautiful photographs from a session, I’ve chosen not to publish this family’s newborn photographs online.

I think this is an increasingly important part of modern photography.

Online safety matters — particularly when children are involved.

Photographs can sometimes reveal more information than we realise. A baby’s face, the interior of a home, a distinctive garden, a street view, names or other recognisable details can potentially reveal information about a family that they may not want publicly available.

With images being so easily shared, copied and circulated online, I believe parents should always have complete control over whether photographs of their children are made public.

For this family, that means keeping their photographs private and avoiding sharing any identifying features of their home or location.

And I think that’s something to be celebrated.

Beautiful photographs don’t have to be shared

As a photographer, I love being able to showcase my work, but that should never come before a family’s privacy.

Not every beautiful photograph needs to appear on Instagram, Facebook or a photographer’s website.

Sometimes photographs are simply meant for the people in them.

I want every family I photograph to feel comfortable telling me exactly what they are and aren’t happy for me to share. Whether you’re happy for photographs to be used online, would prefer certain images to remain private, or don’t want your family’s photographs shared at all, that choice should always be respected.

A Scottish photographer who travels

I’m based in Perthshire, Scotland, but I regularly travel for photography sessions across Scotland.

This particular newborn family photoshoot took me around an hour from home to Lanarkshire, and it was absolutely worth the journey.

For me, newborn photography isn’t about creating the perfect photograph for social media. It’s about documenting a tiny, fleeting chapter of your family’s life and giving you photographs that you’ll treasure for years to come.

And sometimes, the most precious photographs are the ones that stay safely within the family.

If you’re looking for a photographer in Lanarkshire, a photographer in Scotland, or a Scottish photographer who is happy to travel, I’d love to hear from you.
