Every now and again, someone walks into your life and you just know you’re going to get on.
No explanation. No awkward small talk. No having to find your feet with each other.
Just an instant connection.
And that’s exactly what happened when Elspeth came to see me for professional modelling headshots.
Elspeth had found me through Google and booked a shoot to create images for a modelling agency. The plan was simple enough: a mixture of professional headshots, different backgrounds and some outdoor photography to give her a lovely variety of images for her portfolio.
somewhere between the photographs, the conversations and getting to know one another, the shoot became about so much more than the images we were creating.
I fell in love with her energy. Her soul. Just her.
And the thing is, it was instant.
You know those people who make you feel as though you’ve known them far longer than you actually have? The ones you can talk to effortlessly, where the conversation just flows and you don’t feel the need to filter yourself or be anything other than who you are?
That was Elspeth.
Now, I should probably point out that I am not always the best person to book if you’re expecting everything to run strictly to schedule when the conversation is good. 😂
What should have been a professional headshot session turned into us going around 40 minutes over our allocated time because we were too busy chatting.
Forty minutes!
And honestly? I wouldn’t change a thing.
The connection just grew and grew, and by the time we were finished, I felt as though I’d gained far more than a lovely set of photographs from the experience.
But wait. It gets even better.
During our conversation, we discovered that Elspeth actually knew the makeup artist who works alongside me.
Not only did she know her, but she’d been at her wedding TEN YEARS AGO!
Tell me that’s not one of those little moments that makes you stop and think about how wonderfully interconnected the world can be.
Elspeth had Googled me, booked a photographer she’d never met, arrived for a session, and somehow we discovered this unexpected connection through someone already part of my little photography world.
Isn’t it funny how life works?

The photographs are beautiful, of course.
But the person behind them? That’s what made this session truly special.
