Some nights are a little bit different from my usual photography work.

Saturday night in Glasgow was definitely one of them.

Instead of photographing brides, boudoir sessions or families, I found myself right in the middle of the action at another fantastic SK Promotions boxing night — and I bloody loved every second of it.

Back in the thick of the action

This time, I had an extra reason to be excited because I was proud to be sponsoring Chris, who was making his return to the boxing ring after an incredible 10-year break.

Ten years away from the ring is a long time.

So there was understandably plenty of anticipation surrounding his return.

And then…

TKO. First round.

What a way to come back.

The atmosphere in the room was absolutely electric, and watching Chris step back into the ring after a decade away and finish the fight in the first round was something very special to witness.

Well done, Chris.

You absolutely smashed it.

SK Promotions know how to put on a night

If you’ve never been to an SK Promotions boxing event, they really do know how to put on a show.

The atmosphere.

The production.

The crowd.

The anticipation before each fight.

And then that moment when the fighters walk towards the ring and everything suddenly gets very real.

It’s brilliant.

And I have to say, the hospitality I’m shown by the team is always absolutely top class.

I’m incredibly grateful to be involved and to be welcomed back time and time again.

Why I love photographing boxing

I’ll absolutely admit it…

I fucking love being in the thick of the action.

There’s something completely addictive about being behind the scenes at a boxing event.

The sweat.

The nerves.

The anticipation.

The preparation.

The noise.

The adrenaline.

The few seconds before a fighter walks out when you can almost feel the tension in the room.

As a photographer, you’re not standing safely at the edge watching it happen.

You’re right there.

You’re looking for the moments that happen in between the big moments.

The preparation backstage.

The concentration.

The coaches.

The fighters.

The celebrations.

The exhaustion.

The emotion.

And sometimes, the sheer chaos.

Those are the photographs I love.

From Cyclone Promotions to SK Promotions

This isn’t actually a new love of mine.

I’ve been around boxing and fight promotions since 2016, when I worked with Cyclone Promotions under the McGuigans.

That’s probably a story for another day…

But that experience definitely gave me a taste for the atmosphere and energy that comes with boxing.

There’s something very different about photographing a sporting event compared with a wedding or a boudoir session.

With weddings, you’re anticipating emotional moments.

With boudoir, you’re creating confidence and helping someone feel incredible in front of the camera.

With boxing?

You’d better be ready.

Because things happen fast.

Very fast.

And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Event photography in Glasgow and across Scotland

Although boudoir photography is a huge part of what I do, I also love getting out of the studio and photographing events across Scotland.

Boxing is particularly exciting because there is so much happening both inside and outside the ring.

If you’re organising a sporting event, boxing night, corporate event, live show or another occasion where you need a photographer who is comfortable working in fast-paced environments, I’d love to hear from you.
