Some clients come into my studio for one boudoir photoshoot, and others become part of the furniture. 😂❤️

Sam is firmly in the second category, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

This was Sam’s 14th photoshoot with me and her second boudoir water shoot, and honestly, what a brilliant time we had together.

If you’ve ever wondered why women return for boudoir photography again and again, sessions like this are a perfect example.

Boudoir photography is about more than beautiful pictures

For Sam, these sessions are about so much more than the final photographs.

She lives with severe gynaecological health issues that bring constant discomfort and pain. Like so many women dealing with complex women’s health conditions, she has found the journey towards getting the treatment, support and compassion she needs incredibly difficult.

I won’t pretend that a photoshoot changes any of that. It doesn’t magically take away pain, fix a difficult healthcare journey or make the challenges of everyday life disappear.

But what it can offer is a little breathing space.

A chance to step away from the everyday reality of managing pain and discomfort, have some fun, feel good, laugh until your face hurts and do something purely for yourself.

And I think that matters.

Why I love boudoir water photography

Water sessions are a completely different experience from a traditional boudoir photoshoot. With the movement of the water, the reflections, the lighting and the opportunity to create something a little more artistic, every image can feel unique.

Sam had already experienced a water shoot with me, so we knew we were in for another fun session. These shoots give us the chance to experiment, get creative and create something different from the photographs we have made together before.

As a boudoir photographer in Scotland, I love helping women explore different styles of photography, whether that means their very first confidence-boosting session or, in Sam’s case, their fourteenth!

There is no rule saying boudoir photography has to be a one-time experience. Your style can change, your confidence can grow, and you can try something completely different every time you step in front of the camera.

A little reminder about women’s health

I also think it is important to acknowledge something beyond the photography.

Women living with gynaecological conditions and chronic pain deserve to be listened to, taken seriously and treated with compassion. Nobody should feel that they have to fight endlessly to have their pain acknowledged.

Sam’s story is her own to tell, and I will always respect her privacy. But I am grateful that my studio can be a place where she gets to enjoy herself, make memories and have an experience that is about her as a person, rather than the discomfort she deals with every day.

Sometimes, having something joyful to look forward to makes a difference, even when the bigger challenges are still there.

And if a boudoir session can give someone a few hours of laughter, creativity and feeling fantastic, then I consider that a pretty wonderful thing.

Fourteen sessions down… and counting!

Sam, thank you for coming back time and time again, for trusting me with your photoshoots and for making every session such a brilliant experience.

Fourteen sessions is a lot of memories, and I am already looking forward to making more with you!

Here’s to more creativity, more laughter, more water shoots and, hopefully, a much kinder journey with your health.

I can’t wait until the next one, Sam! ❤️
